NEWSFLASH: SHERIFF NELSON FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST THE CITY OF LA MESA, CA
Folks you are not going to believe this.
Deschutes County Sheriff, Shane Nelson, has hired the Briggs Law Corporation — A California law firm — and has filed a civil lawsuit against the City of La Mesa California. (Complaint linked below)
It appears that Shane Nelson is none too happy with the City of La Mesa’s response to a public records request made by him. (Linked below)
Apparently Nelson thinks La Mesa is hiding information from him. Projection much?
So what information could the City of La Mesa possibly have that would be of interest to Shane Nelson?
In his letter to Chief Ray Sweeney of the La Mesa Police Department and City Manager Greg Humora asking for public records, Nelson wrote the following:
“Mr. VanderKamp is a current police certified Sergeant with our Sheriff’s Office in Bend, Oregon, and he works on high-profile narcotics cases in both state and federal criminal prosecutions. I have reason to believe that Mr. VanderKamp was terminated from your agency around 1997, that he was placed on a Brady list, and that the La Mesa Police Department still maintains records related to this termination. If our information about Mr. VanderKamp being on a Brady list is accurate, as I have reason to believe, there is a significant risk that criminal cases he has been involved in are in jeopardy, and that our state and federal prosecutors have unknowingly failed to produce exculpatory evidence in violation of Brady v. Maryland and Giglio v. United States.” (Letter linked below)
For those who are unaware, a Brady List is a list compiled usually by a prosecutor’s office or a police department containing the names and details of law enforcement officers who have had sustained incidents of untruthfulness, criminal convictions, candor issues, or some other type of issue placing their credibility into question
Quite honestly, we would be surprised if Vander Kamp is or has ever been on a Brady list be it in California or elsewhere.
In fact we have to ask how did Nelson conveniently come up with his suspicions in the first place?
The City of La Mesa responded to Nelson’s request with a letter (linked below) in which they provided the records they had on file which appear to date from 1995. That would be almost 30 years ago.
Apparently this was not good enough for Nelson, and now we have the Deschutes County tax payer footing the bill for a frivolous lawsuit in California over some 30 year old records that very likely don’t exist.
Ask yourself why would the City of La Mesa hide such information from Shane Nelson?
Are Shane Nelson and his inner circle so paranoid that they think The City is colluding with Vander Kamp?
We now ask what is the real reason for Nelson’ lawsuit?
We think it is pretty obvious. Based on the public records request, it is a fishing expedition to dig up dirt on Sheriff’s Office Candidate Sergeant Kent Vander Kamp.
That’s right folks, the citizens of Deschutes County, a.k.a. you, are funding a lawsuit against a City in California to dig up dirt on Kent Vander Kamp, a candidate for Sheriff who Nelson is not even running against.
We are sure if confronted, Nelson would argue that he is only trying to ensure the integrity of his office.
However, given the target of his lawsuit is conveniently his chosen candidate’s, William Bailey’, opponent, this beggars belief. If he honestly thinks he is going to convince folks with that line, well then we have a bridge to sell him.
It appears to us that Nelson is in full panic mode and in his desperate bid to get Bailey elected as the next Deschutes County Sheriff, Shane Nelson has crossed the Rubicon and has waded into some extremely dangerous waters.
It is clear to us that Sheriff Shane Nelson is using tax payer money and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office as a machine to campaign for Bailey, his chosen candidate, and against Bailey’s opponent Sergeant Kent Vander Kamp.
Keep in mind this is tax payer money which is being diverted from providing “superior public safety” to the Deschutes County and is instead being used to nefariously target Sergeant Vander Kamp.
We again must ask why is Sheriff Shane Nelson willing to go to such extreme measures to derail Kent Vander Kamp‘s campaign in an attempt to get Captain William Bailey elected?
What is Shane Nelson hiding?
